Rearview Mirrors
Mon, March 22, 2010
There are times I can be really corny, and today is one of those days.
As you all may know, I love my camera. It is not just the art of the photo that I love. I've said it many times before that a photograph captures time. My photos give me back memories I may have forgotten.
The other day while driving, well, let me back up for a second. You see, I drive way too much which means I spend a significant amount of time in my car. It truly does not bother me though, I am a radio junkie, so I am either singing to the music, dancing to the music or trying to be smart listening to talk radio.
Yet every so often I will be at a red light and just look in my rearview mirror and I will stare at my boys. I love watching them watching the world around them without them thinking I see them.
The rearview mirror is also another reality check with how fast life moves. I mean at first it was the rear facing infant seat, with the little mirror so I could see every movement my first little guy made. Then we graduated to a forward facing seat, and then we added back the rear facing infant seat for my second little guy. Then we graduated again to a booster seat for my oldest, and a forward facing seat for my youngest. It makes my heart sad and happy just thinking about it.
I also hold my kids hands sometimes when I am driving, (what I have really long arms, trust me on this), and they go from the tiny five little fingers, to sweaty little toddler hands, to hands that are no longer able to fit in your fist.
But I am thankful for my rearview mirror, because it is a constant reminder how blessed I am. And it really does remind me to take a photo, any photo of my kids so I can look back and remember.
Because I want and need to remember every little detail.
